Have you heard the old saying that goes something like this: Don’t ever say you aren’t going to do something because you will end up eating your words. Yep that is exactly what happened to me in a couple different cases.
A couple of years ago, Mike and I were watching Tiny House Hunters and loving it. We would joke around about how we wanted to live in a tiny house one day when the kids were older. I was always quick to say that I wouldn’t and couldn’t live in a tiny house with two growing boys. Ha how times have changed!!! Summer of 2019, Mike was in a car accident after a couple weeks of training in the blazing hot sun. That is when our discussion of moving up to Uwharrie became serious. We started with looking at homes in the Uwharrie area but that wouldn’t help cut our cost of living. One day I came home and Mike said what if we bought a camper and lived in it for a year and my immediate response was OK! I couldn’t believe my ears, that I had just agreed to move into a camper with two boys AND two dogs. Had I lost my mind? Probably!!! Of course with the decision came lots of anxiety and thoughts on how to organize everything. More than a hand full of times I would ask Mike if we were crazy to make such a drastic change in our lifestyle. But over the months I knew in my heart that this was the right thing for my family and so I embraced it and really started to think through how I was going to organize everything. We are on week two of living full time in the camper. Has it been a change? Yes of course it has, I would be lying if I told you no. Has it been a good experience? Yes, so far we are loving our life of living in a camper. Yesterday rained and we were inside majority of the day, and surprisingly the camper didn’t feel to crowded. It has been an adjustment getting use to the smaller bathroom, only one bathroom and not a lot of room in the kitchen. Other than that it is our HOME and it meets all of our needs. I think we are closer as a family now then we ever have been. Ask me in two months how I am liking it, my opinion might have changed by then but I sure hope not.
Second thing I said I would never do is HOMESCHOOL! Seriously guys, I thought Mike had lost his ever loving mind when he asked me if I wanted to homeschool our boys. I think I looked at him like he had 10 heads staring back at me. I immediately was like no nope not going to happen. There is absolutely no way I can homeschool our sons. I even talked to a couple of different friends and told them Mike was crazy thinking that I would be able to homeschool the boys. Mike reassured me that he would help me with it. The more I thought about homeschooling the more excited I got. I realized it would give Mike and I a chance to really get to know our boys and to make sure they were learning important things in this life. Now, don’t take that the wrong way I love the public school system, I was a student at one point and I even worked in the school system for almost 13 years. However, with the way this world is today Mike and I want to make sure we are instilling in the boys the morals and values that we have. So we are on week three of homeschooling and we are all loving it. The boys get up whenever they want to in the morning, start their school work and then have the rest of the day to play outside, ride their bikes and whatever else we can get into. Now, with all of that being said we still have rules such as: they have to help around the house, they have to help us walk the dogs and they still have a normal bed time.
So there you have two of the major things I have said I would never do and look at me here I am living in a camper and homeschooling my boys!!!!
