I am not sure about you, but growing up and even now we have always had traditions.  Not sure if it is because it is 2020 and nothing seems to be “normal” right now or what but our traditions have changed this year.  This is the first time in 13 years I will not be eating Thanksgiving with my family or at least seeing them on Thanksgiving day.  Instead, we are heading to the coast to do some fishing with Mike’s family.  We are super excited for something different this year.  I am going to miss seeing my whole family but sometimes change is a good thing!

Another tradition that I have had my whole life is having a real Christmas tree.  Unfortunately, living in a camper there really isn’t room for a regular size Christmas tree. So, I broke down and got a fake Christmas tree.  Man I am going to miss the smell of a real Christmas tree.  At least I still have the little amount of lights to look at 🙂  But it isn’t about the tree during Christmas time.  It is the real reason for the season which is Jesus and I am just trying to remind myself of that.  The boys seem really happy with our little 2 foot tree.

That brings me to another tradition that has changed this year…..putting a Christmas tree up before Thanksgiving.  I mean really who am I? I NEVER put up a Christmas tree before Thanksgiving nor do I listen to Christmas music before I eat the turkey.  This year I think that anything goes.  I mean Covid has messed up so many plans and caused us to do things differently so why not change how I have always done things and just do them.  Being someone that likes to have things planned out and keep my traditions going, changing up this year has been hard.  However, I am trying to remain positive and remind myself it is ok for traditions to change because either way life goes on!

In a year that has not been normal, it’s okay to listen to Christmas music, watch the Hallmark movies and put up the tree and lights up early. If it makes you happy, then do it. I would love to keep my tree up all year.
